Slawa Horowitz-Duldig: Modernist Art & Design

Art

A celebration of the creativity of Austrian-Australian emigré Slawa Horowitz-Duldig. An artist, designer and inventor of the modern foldable umbrella, Slawa’s career in Vienna was cut short when she was forced to flee the Nazis in 1938. With insightful contributions from eminent curators and academics and elegant design by the award winning firm Pfisterer + Freeman, it is enriched by illustrations and rare archival material sourced from the Duldig Studio, an artists’ house museum founded by Slawa’s daughter in Melbourne, Australia. It is an important contribution to a growing area of art history and the ongoing recovery of ‘forgotten’ women artists.
